Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
